Good luck wakeboarding behind them. Oh you can do it but jet boats don't put out hardly any wake because they are so light. There are big differences between these two. It all depends what you're looking for.

If you're looking for a small craft to spin around and do cookies on the water and just have a little fun then a jet boat might be up your alley. If you want to boat like a real boater and ski, tube, wakeboard and cruise the waters no matter what the chop is like then get a real boat. My friends jet boat was a POS. When it did work it was like a jet ski.

If you don't mind running engines at over RPM to get any kind of power, if you don't mind loosing the ability to comfortably maneuver at low speeds around docks, if you don't mind a gas eater, if you don't mind worrying about how the impellers are going to suck up gunk when running in skinny water, if you don't mind rough riding boats, then by all means get a jet boat.

For me, IMHO, you can beat props in the water to power a boat. More efficiency, better gas mileage, and much better overall handling. Thanks, everybody. You confirmed and validated everything we thought about the Yamahas. The foot Yamaha is a darn nice looking, well-built boat with a lot of whistles and bells. But I just can't get past the idea of that noise.

Can't trade that whumpa-whumpa-whumpa V8 for a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Plus a true neutral, which the Yamaha doesn't have, comes in handy at the dock. A big Yamaha selling point seems to be high-speed manuverability, but how much fun can you have leaping wakes, spinning or submarining the bow when your wife's barfing in the cooler?!

Jet boats are for going fast in calm water, turning quick at high speed for a thrill, impressing people you'll never meet with your roostertail and burning a lot of gas.

If that is the way you want to boat, buy one. Real smart boat owners know that Chaparral is, well Chaparral. Beat that! Cruisers are for burning even more gas. Including Chaparral. To preface, I own and love my Chappy ssi. Best boat I've ever owned so don't kill me.

A friend of mine has a sea doo wake boat with dual supercharged rotex engines that accelerates faster than any factory boat I've ever been in although it soes have the same top end as mine. It has the bladders so you can flood them to get the wake how you want it.
