The tour leader Albert was interesting and amusing throughout. The coach dropped us at Port de Sal Calobra where a short walk takes you to a stunning cove that looks like something from Jurassic park.
After a quick ice cream break we boarded the old train to Palma which winds through the mountains and many tunnels. The coach was there to pick us up and take us home when we got off. The organisation of the tour was excellent, Albert was always on hand if you need anything and was very clear in directions, times and meeting points.
The bus driver was also superb. The tour does take quite a lot of time around 9 hours I think and at the hight of summer as it is now the temperatures of 32c or more can challenging at times but we all enjoyed it including 5 year old daughter and 12 year old son just remember to take sun cream, hats and to drink plenty or water.
Again, we were collected promptly very near the hotel. Our guide was Juan - most lovely person! Juan entertained us with jokes and lots of information as the coach travelled inland up and down the mountains. The roads are not for the faint hearted as they are steep and narrow but Juan said James was 'the best driver in the world'.
Then back on the coach down to the port. We has about 20 minutes to admire the beautiful port. It was actually a secluded cove. We boarded the boat and travelled close to the shore to admire the rock formations and sea views. We went on a lovely tram but I cannot remember much about that bit of the day. We then travelled to Port de Soller.
It was stunning! It actually felt very 'Italian Riviera' with its pizzas and ice-creams. We explored the town. The church here was gorgeous. It was quiet and dark and a welcome peace in all the holiday excitement. Next, it was time for the train ride. It's an old, original train that's rickety and authentic. We sat on the balcony between carriages rather than in a carriage.
We travelled high into the mountains with excellent panoramic views. There were tunnels through the rock, one being 2 km long which was cold - a rare feeling in the height of summer!
Finally the train pulled into a little station and the coach was was there waiting to take us back to the hotel. They could be bored and indifferent, doing the same trips each day, but they weren't. We were made to feel special from start to finish. I cannot recommend 'No Frills' excursions enough! The trips are comfortable, safe, entertaining, interesting, stunning etc etc. Try them for yourselves!!

We followed the mountain road to the beautiful port of Sa Calobra. We had half an hour here before boarding a yacht for a cruise lasting approximately 45 minutes - the coastline is beautiful and we were taken to the Port of Soller. We had an hour here to browse the shops and restaurants before boarding a tram to the centre of Soller - again, there is a small stop here before boarding a train to Palma where you meet the bus - which took us to the door of our hotel.
Be prepared for a long day - but a very rewarding day. The views of the island are amazing and it was good to get away from the tourist route and experience the island from the Mallorcan's point of view. I have to praise the tour guide Juan - he told us he had done this particular tour on lots of occasions - but he spoke with an infectious enthusiasm that can't fail to impress.

It was slightly before peak season kicked in so it turned out that we were the only family booked with them on that day.
