My favorite dish is pad Thai, so I decided to give this restaurant a try. I probably had pad Thai at They did have plenty of chicken in it and I also added shrimp that was also good. This restaurant has been consistently disappointing since the new management a few years ago.
Hope it improves. We visited Sambi in and found the food good but the service totally sub-par. Last evening we came in for Happy Hour after a 5 hour drive without stopping for lunch, so we were pretty hungry.
All the tables were empty, so we chose Our server, Serena was friendly and fairly attentive. We ordered a carafe of hot sake and an assortment of appetizers on the HH menu. The duck, bacon and cream cheese dumpling were good, but they were fried and I was anticipating steamed. The seafood salad was delicious. The Combo Nigiri plate came next, and we were told that they were out of hamachi so they had subbed a piece of shrimp.
After looking the plate over we called Serena back and said that we didn't want the plate. The salmon, tuna and red snapper looked like they had not been freshly cut and were a little dry on the edges. The halibut and another white fish looked like scraps, they weren't properly cut and the shapes were random. All the fish was a bit off-color. Also, the balls of rice under each piece of fish were humongous, about twice the normal ratio.
We didn't have high expectations for the rest of the sushi, but fortunately they were a bit better. The salmon avocado roll was alright, but the avocado looked like it had been sliced much earlier and had started oxidizing. There wasn't much salmon in it at all.
The sushi rice tasted and smelled like plain rice, no rice vinegar added, so bland and not properly prepared. The spicy tuna and salmon roll was the best item we had there. The sushi chef stopped by our table and asked how things were and we were honest with her. She said that her knife must be dull but insisted that everything had been freshly cut, then walked away with an eye roll she didn't try hard to hide.
Now for the health violations--the lamp shade over our table was completely filthy. And since the door was open and a fan over the counter was on high speed, the chance of that dust falling onto our food and drinks was highly likely.
I'm also pretty sure that the fan hanging there blowing into the kitchen was a violation as anything picked up from the air is going straight onto the food being prepared. We also noticed that there were a couple of trays of crispy noodles and sweet and sour sauce that had been pre-portioned and were being stored UNCOVERED under a counter only inches from the floor where anything kicked up from someone walking by would land directly on those noodles.
I don't like leaving negative reviews as I was in the restaurant industry for a number of years and I know how hard it is. But my last review for Sambi said we wouldn't be back and I neglected to read it before coming and I had forgotten about the terrible experience we had the first time. We picked this restaurant while strolling early evening in downtown Steamboat.
It looked family friendly, and several restaurants did not. The owner was very outgoing, and spoke of his experience as a chef and travels to Thailand.
All our food was ready quickly and steaming Unfortunately, the drunken noodle and pad Thai our kids ordered were lacking in flavor and sauce, and were mostly just sweet noodles. I'd recommend new recipes. Despite this, we felt welcomed to Steamboat Springs by the hosts, and appreciated the pleasant conversation they made with us after our meal.

Ordered four takeout dishes from Sambi Canton the other night, our first experience with the restaurant. Food was ready as scheduled. Unfortunately, when I opened the boxes I thought they had given us four of the same dishes. But they did not, They just looked Swimming in sauce. Not very flavorful, not very good. Maybe the Thai side of the menu is better but we will not be trying the Chinese side again.
They were waited on immediately one of the groups even pointed out that we were there before them We know Sambi and have followed them from their original location on Lincoln.. There were 4 tables eating I hope they can improve their service and attitude. We have been fans of Sambi and their original restaurant for many years. Been here many times and always liked it The sauces all seemed to be watered down, the food was way over salted, the rice was questionable. Seems like all the recipes have been changed and not for the better.

Surprised not more people were here but more time for my family. Before it closed over five years ago, Sambi Cafe had good food and a good reputation with Steamboat locals.
