We have friends who have started a journey on a sailboat one and a half years ago with two little kids. The plan was to start before getting kids but, live has it own rules. So after the first kid, they started to reconsider there plans, and before they came to an end� so now with to kids on the boat. They started at Kiel Germany and at the moment the boat lies somewhere in Brazil.
They came bake for work but will continue there journey around october. By all the beautifull stories the told us, they have this thing in the video that makes them a bit reflective. On this theme has already been called attention on in this block, but i think, we can not remember the people enough. Especially when you travell with kids and try to show them the world. I do have to say though, I feel like the fact your boat is so reliant on fossil fuel still is a real issue that I believe you should address. Now with all your supporters I am sure some engineers can build a relatively inexpensive and very efficient system for the boat. I would also say build it in a way that allows for longer passages. I am currently in the process of doing this to an Alberg 30 because I got tired of everyone trashing me when I pointed out that it is totally possible to do the conversion from fossil fuel engines.
Instead of arguing I decided to do. I hope your family chooses to do the same. You have a responsibility as role models to young people and proof of concept to all others who see it as impossible without making the boat extremely heavy or spending massive amounts of money. I am sailor myself on tankers over in Japan, and I know that when we have typhoons come we run and hide. Keep doing what your doing it is amazing to watch and hopefully one day I can live the same life. I bought your Sailing guide you wrote and thought it was wonderful. I hope to live on a sailboat soon. I started out when I was young saving for an island and then decided an Island was too stationary and so switched to saving for a sailboat.
Then dream got put on hold for family and business, fast forward 40 years. Your book so resonated with me because it has the basics I wish I had had before I stepped on my boat and also things I did not even know I did not know. The anchor part made me laugh because the first time we anchored we tossed over an anchor thinking it would just hold us down, then went to bed and at 2am we were on the internet researching how to set an anchor because we were woken up by yelling that we were drifting.
REAL sailors I am sure will cringe at that story and would say we should have learned first and perhaps we should have, but that is why I really liked your book, it starts with bare bones basics. I realized later that being able to focus made a huge difference, for example, when I was tired or stressed my mind would wander and for lack of a better word would spiral out of control. I feared even doing daily chores. In the end, however, it was a coin flip whether I made it to the store or not. Some days I could do it but other days my anxiety would win. However, the very moment my first child, Chloe Renee, came into this world it all changed!!!
It was like a cloud of reality and panic lowered itself around me making it hard to move or even breath, like the fear was going to overtake me if I let it. I spent the first 2 years of my daughters life a complete neurotic mess. From the outside I looked like I had the perfect life and was the envy of others but inside I was living a nightmare. I tried every form of western therapy as well as holistic eastern medicine with little to know help.
And just when I thought I was going to go crazy, God have me a quick sharp slap in the face and woke me up from the nightmare. After giving birth to my second child, my son Chase Ryder, I became deathly ill. My body began shutting itself down and I was literally dying. I was officially dying�my body was going to do to me what all of those scenarios I obsessed over and feared would do to me.
Out of options and desperate I dropped to my knees and I just started praying. I decided there and then to give all of my fear and worry to God. I told him I was his to do what he wanted and that if he would just guide me I would follow.
I watched endless YouTube videos which is how I found you on the subject and as I tried and failed to prove the Bible wrong in the hopes of me being the ruler of my own destiny I found something in me changing.
