I have a Tidewater and have not had any major issues, just a couple quickly fixed items that were taken care of by my fantastic dealer. You will most likely have a couple things that you need fixed, something as simple as adding a rubber gasket to the underside of a hatch to prevent water intrusion. With that said, I would fully recommend the Bay Max. The new tunnel really catches my eye! These Bay Max boats are really underpowered for their size and weight. With higher HP you will be able to get on plane quicker, carry more people and gear, cruise at a lower rpm, and have a higher top speed.
There is a new dealer that just took on the line close to where I boat. After all the bad post I have read I wanted to meet with the dealer to see if I felt they would stand behind the product. Not getting a good feeling there. They sell used cars and trucks and have an auto service garage.
Not saying anything bad but they do not know the boats very well and my worry is if I would buy a new Tidewater Boat and warranty problems pop up like cracks, fuel leaks or any of the many problems I have read about here, would they be able and skilled enough to fix my problems. Owner of a Bay Max No problems here. You read about horror stories on the net because happy boaters are busy boating! Every boat and every motor brand experiences issues. Most people go to the web to gripe. So I did a ton of research before purchasing my tidewater Carolina bay I experienced a lot of the same feelings you are now.
I agree with the above said things about the internet and THT in particular. It seems that people latch on to certain companies and feel the need to bash others in order to make themselves feel better about their choice. I did not research the bay max, but rather the Carolina bay so some of this may not apply.
Boat manufacturers belong to larger purchasing groups. And there are only a few Gelcoat manufacturers in the world.
So, if one has a problem, chances are, other manufacturers had similar issues, regardless of price point. They also use a composite backing for their cushions not wood , also the same as higher end boats. The fuses and wiring harnesses are marine grade and heat shrunk. Believe it or not some manufacturers use automotive fuses etc. Most all boats these days are foam and fiberglass and they all molecularly bond the hull.
Carolina bay is. Only 2 in this class of boat do. The robalo is the other. I found truly that the tidewater Carolina bay was a class above the other boats in this price point.
Not sure any of this applies to the bay max. Just speaking to how far tidewater has come in a short period of time. I had a slight leak in my console compartment. Hope this ramble helps.
Thanks for the feed back guys. I went and looked at several used Tidewater Boats from to s and was not comfortable with what I saw. They just did not age well and with the continuing problems I just can not buy Tidewater. I did look at the Wellcraft and the Cobia.
Did not like the look and layout of the Wellcraft but fell in love with the Cobia. We have been back to see the Cobia Boats three times and looks like that will be our choice. The dealer that sells them must have Tidewater Boats on the lot.
Says he sold them for seven years selling something in excess of boats. He did not say a bad word about Tidewater but he did get me on comparison models and show me the differences. Cobia is a much better quality, fit and finish boat. Not saying your boat is bad just that the Cobia boats really look well build. The size difference is amazing. The Cobia sitting next to a 25 Tidewater looks bigger, not as wide but bigger in most other ways. The big finished front opening head with a real toilet and sink sold my wife.
We have a demo ride on a Cobia this coming weekend. I think this could be the one finally. About pricing. The Cobia Boats were just a little bit more but I think worth the differance.
