The walking path along the canal is so peaceful and beautiful. It is one of the best walking paths in Matlock. The canal itself is a marvelous engineering achievement. You can take a 2 hours boating trip in the canal too.

I have to say the peak district is a truly paradise for people enjoying walking! The start of the canal at Cromford is a popular place with locals and visitors alike.

At the top of the incline there are great views over Cromford towards Matlock Bath. Probably about 5 miles in total, and maybe 2. Lovely walk and the dog had a great time too! Lots of parking and lots of places to grab a drink. Would definitely recommend to someone looking for a cheap day out. Walked from Ambergate , parked just off A6, to Whatstandwell as that was all our ageing Labrador could manage.

Was possible to go full 5 miles to Cromford and catch the train back, they run every 45 minutes or so. Walk was delightful and we saw loads of wildlife and fauna. Well worth a visit. Spent a lovely afternoon walking along this canal with the grandkids. Lots to see and a lovely little cafe at the end of our walk so we all had ice-creams.
