The first year I used these supports the supports although tight twisted on the pontoon railing, and the boat cover collapsed. I improved upon the initial concept by providing a support in the middle of each PVC pipe. I cut a 2"x2" post to fit the height, then cut a "V" notch in the top to allow the PVC pipe to rest on top. Then drilled a small hole through the pipe and the post and connected the pipe to the post with a zip tie. I then added a line from the forward boat railing to each PVC pipe and then tied the line off at the aft boat railing.

At each point where the line came in contact with the PVC pipe I also tied a loop around the pipe to ensure stability. This system worked perfectly for me last year, and I just re-installed it this year for the coming winter. See the included photos showing my approach to making this work. Images in this review. The brackets are made to tight.

I tried to put something between it and my painted rails but it still took the paint off my rail. This movement causes the metal bracket to chaff and dig into the painted surface.

The metal brackets ruined the paint on my rails. Before I installed these my rails were 10 years old and not missing any paint.

When you take them off, there is clear indication of where they were installed. This is a flawed design. The brackets should be made slightly larger so that a thin rubber pad can be placed between the bracket and the rail.

Some of this was just copied and pasted because I had the same issue. I was a little disappointed at first with the arch support system. The clamps were larger than my railings so the clamps bent when I tried to tighten them. Not a big deal. Eh, so there we have it. MH Hawker Vice Admiral. Joined Jul 13, Messages 5, I make a sort of shelter over my pontoon during the winter with enough room so I can get under it to work out of 2 inch PVC and a new tarp.

Nothing like yours though. Joined Jul 18, Messages 14, I made a frame out of 1x3 lumber and it did not fair so well. Thats interesting. Uncle Dave Petty Officer 1st Class. Re: My "PVC-based boat cover frame support" build smiles, no not at all, it looks about like a frame I made for a old bow rider I used to have, the steeper the angle it has the better it sheds rain and snow.

Uncle Dave no their just sitting on the deck, the side ropes running from the ridge pole keep plenty of pressure on it to keep it in place. So, I went with a more heavy duty set up this year that hopefully will stand up to the winter winds and snow, and be reusable.

I used wood though, instead of PVC. After the issues of last year frame tipped over and collapsed I have made sure that the frame is well secured to the boat and the tarp wraps around the boat and is held tight at the keel, so wind cannot get underneath it, etc. Joined Nov 29, Messages 2, View attachment View attachment View attachment Joined Oct 1, Messages Ahhh, so, I had a mega-huge brain fart building this thing.
