I already had planned to get a custom pull off tongue instead of the swing variety. Just thing if it swings to the right and you are parked on the right you have a problem. Any way, I really wanted the 19' special edition Mariah, but alas it just wouldn't fit. So I settled for the 18' shabah which actually measures 18'6 inches.
Impossible without the removable tongue. Something else to check. An 18 or 19 foot boat will be at least 8' wide on trailer if not more. If you have a double garage with two garage doors, you are going to have to get if replaced with a single double wide door.
Just won't fit. If parked correctly, I can still park the boat and ford explorer in the garage at the same time.

I didn't think it would either, but I have about 6" to spare if I turn it at a slight angle. Very hard to back in at the angle it needs to be, so I get it in as good as I can, unhook it from the truck and then move the tounge over by hand.

Wife already put the whammy on the storage awning on the side of the house. I did already think of cutting the hole it the wall for the motor it WOULD be behind the refrigerator , but my wife did not share the same appreciation for my yankee ingenuity go figure. As for angling it, I already have half the garage for toys and have reached my space allotment - need to fir another car on the other side.

I like the convenience of having it right there in my garage so I can just hook it up and go instead of having to drive down to storage yard every time I want to go out. Plus if I want to tinker, clean or just sit there and stare at it, it's right there Now I'm thinking that a 17' might not fit, after all, but does not seem to be a lot in the 16' range that'll tow anything.

I have been considering jetboats yamaha, sea doo as without the motor sticking off the back you save a couple feet, but the ones I've been looking at Yamaha Exciter, Sea Doo Speedster don't have any windshield to speak of and I think living in the northeat, will cut my season short, as the 60 deg water constantly soaking you in Sept would get old kinda quick. My 18' Crownline just fits in mine with about 6" to spare when the boat is at a very slight angle. Another way to gain a couple inches is to take the prop compelely off every time you pull it in the garage.
Takes less than five minutes, but if you only need inches to get a 1 foot longer boat, that might be an option. The good thing is that most newer models of boat trailers come standard with swing away tongues now that'll save you some space.
I have always had a 2 car garage door. So my boat easily fits in it. Moved into a new house that had 3 single stalls but was over 30 feet deep. I thought great for my 17' foot boat! I backed the boat up and it looked tight, so I put the truck in park and got out and looked. It looked really tight. I couldn't believe it. So I couldn't park my boat in my new house. That sucked. All great advice above. Might be able to squeeze a small 17 footer in there, but it will be close.
No way to know for certain though because it will all depend upon the specific combination you buy. Every boat will be different.
Things like length and horsepower of the engine, jackplate or not, where the tongue actually breaks away on the trailer, the beam and actual trailer width, etc.
Only way to know is take exact measurements of a boat you're interested in and then try and measure out in your garage.
Better yet, make the purchase contingent upon it fitting in your garage and you bringing it home to try first. Guessing you'll end up with something closer to 16' when it's all said and done. I have a 17'6" Triton TR with Optimax, swing tongue trailer in a 19'8" garage parked straight back. There is about 2" clearance.
There's no room for a carport. I have an extra space in my driveway, so if I get anything larger, I'll have to park it outside. My wife and I really like this particular home, so I might just have to deal with it.
I might be able to extend the garage out another foot or so. I say that space is Too Small for storing any serious bass fishing craft regardless of hull material. When extending an establish structure there are a number of factors that come into play, many you have no control over; zoning, home owners BS, etc.
Storing your boat inside is Really nice, for many obvious reasons. Don't settle. Keep Looking. Getting into a place with sufficient storage for something that plays such a HUGE role in your life makes sense and should definitely play a role in your home buying decision making matrix. A bass boat really needs a larger storage area. The problem the OP has isn't length, a 17'6" bass boat like mine fits easily, the issue is 8' width. Most bass boat trailers are close to 8' wide finder to finder and that is the issue with a 8' wide single garage door.
