Mostly for still water like trout ponds in Maine or western alpine lakes but I also willl use it for steelhead on the Lake Erie tributaries. I need it to be packed down somewhat small as I will be carrying it with me on or in my truck and truck camper rig. Want one that I can tear down and put together fairly easily.. The microstrike fits in the bed of my long bed pickup. I can get it in and out of the truck without assistance. I can float really shallow and really narrow. Why buy a microstrike over a cat? As many know the Sotar system is pretty bomb proof.

Will it come in under your 5k budget? It was, as memory serves, somewhat more expensive, but, in my opinion darn worth it. They are really nice and certainly more portable.
