Having recently received this item and studied the pack contents, I have mixed feelings. While I am not an expert builder, I have completed similar projects before and I can immediately see that there is not enough information provided in the instructions to complete the model fully - for example, there is no mention of rigging, no pattern for the sails, and not even dimensions for the spars and masts.
It is also clear that the plan is not for exactly the same boat as imaged: for example, the small boat illustrated on the stern is not included in the kit and some of the fittings in the photograph so not appear to be in the kit. Sure, the pieces are flimsy but it is a fairly detailed scale model and some delicacy should be expected. The wood seems to be good quality and the cut-outs are prepared accurately, easy to detach and show very good attention to detail. Advanced tinkerer - If you like modifying and adding to models then this is probably a good kit for you. Again because it is cheap if you mess it up it doesn't matter. Therefore if you have a keen interest to cut and make parts and other things, this could maybe end up looking quite good I have made a few modifications that improve the overall appearance but i don't want to attach pictures in case people get a dishonest representation of the model.
That said it will require a lot of extra parts and additions to make it a truly good model. So, the kit itself, it comes in a fairly small box containing the wooden parts laser cut into the plyboard. I found the parts easy enough to cut out with my penknife but a proper model knife would be more advisable. The sail cloth is included but you will have to cut and sew the sails yourself and there is no pattern for the square rigged sails.
The instructions do assign letters and numbers to part but these don't always correspond to the correct part on the plyboard. You will also find some parts aren't even shown on the instructions, I have a feeling this is because the part templates have been straight up copied from another model kit, namely the Harvey, which I don't think is for sale anymore.
So overall - you get what you pay for, it is a cheap copy and it shows, therefore not suitable for the vast majority of people. For the occasional few its probably quite a lot of fun. I like to do manual work, so I bought this DIY ship model, ready to do with my daughter.
