Last edited: Mar 28, I use a combination of V AC above water halogen lights run from generator plus green underwater 12V Florescent lights that I bought maybe 15 years ago and still work fine.
The problem with the bright above water lights is that they can attract sea lions too. Less problematic with underwater green. Combined two 12V florescent lights together with glue and wire ties, removed the alligator clips, combined wires in parallel, extended length of wires to 25', Led Lights For Boats Underwater 50ml and added a 12V plug which goes into a flush-mount accessory plug.
Also have one more longer 12V underwater florescent green light. I painted the glass on the halogen lights green and blue. White lights don't work well on squid - I have seen others using white lights actually scare the squid away - like a hazard zone to the squid. Had a V blue metal halide light also but someone either stole it or borrowed it - somewhat cumbersome though due to large size.

If not coming up, squid jigs will sometimes bring them up. Ideally they will float ant out comes the crowder. If in an area with too many sea lions I will first hand them off to someone else then put out only the underwater lights. My first 12vDC underwater lights were fluorescent. Still have them and they work great.
Painted the halogen lights green and blue. Blue sometimes better as it must look more moonlike from below. White not as good. Have had other boats near me with white lightss and the squid would not go near them. But good for Macs and sea lions.
