Now he and I multi-box it with my Druid who can summon Anzu, as we're He knows how badly I want it, and is going to pass the Reins to me. But we keep running it daily, and are not going to miss another unless we utterly have to. After all, it's only once a day.

Just in case you may not know your chances of it dropping, with sequential runs, you can look at how many times it has 'not dropped' and your chances of it not dropping to get an idea of how lucky you might be.

I'm not sure how many times I've killed this guy but it hasn't dropped yet. Sometimes I bring a mage friend in to speed things up a bit. The Raptor mount dropped a couple weeks ago for us. Comment by Magus I can confirm this is a soloable mount by anyone who has a well equipped level 80 char and a druid alt that can summon the boss. I cleared the instance on my level 80 death knight, then had someone invited to group who was in northrend, not needed to be inside the instance then logged on my level 70 druid alt who has done the quest and got epic flight form, went inside, instance was cleared, summoned boss, quickly logged back out, logged back on my death knight, ran over to the boss room and made it just in time for him to be summoned : very nice that you can solo both this one, the ZG mount bosses and baron for rare mounts.
If only MGT heroic was a bit easier ; this mount is definatly my third most favorite land mount in the game tho : below the swift zulian tiger and spectral tiger mounts, so really hope it drops once!
Comment by Magus Thought I'd mention, for other Death Knights or similar classes soloing this instance, that there are several mobs you can skip, thought I'd post a small quick-guide below: 1.
The first two guards can be skipped if you run straight ahead once the instance loads, but might as well get them, anyway. Here you can, at level 80 sneak past all the big groups, going over to the left and pulling the two guards at the door in to the next hallway with you.
In the next big room you can also skip groups by first going to the middle of the bonfire once the owl has passed, then running straight forward and pull the two guards into the next hallway, kill them and the owl that comes. Kill the two guards in front of the boss room, then sneak past the boss by hugging the left wall.
Kill the two guards in the hallway after the first boss, hug the right wall and kill all the small birds, then after the big blue wind serpent goes back to the beginning of the room, sneak in between the two groups in front of you by waiting for the left patrolling birdman to go back to his group, going forward to the stair, then waiting for the right birdman to go back to his group then sneaking around and up the stairs.
The big blue wind serpent patrolling the stairs can be avoided if you wait for him to go to the end of the room, but might as well kill him, then kill the two guards up there. Kill the pack of small birds inside the next room, then wait for the patrolling birdman to go left, and sneak onto the ledge with small birds to the right. Kill them and sneak straight forward to the two guards. Kill them, and the big blue wind serpent that will probably come.
You can, with some very good sneaking skills kill only one pack in the Anzu room if you're just after the last boss, but ofc if you're doing Anzu you might as well clear the room.
If you wanna do just one pack, basically just pull the wind serpent once he's in the middle, then go to the middle yourself and pull the pack on the upper right, get them into the wall and behind some crates to avoid fear or just nuke down the prophet first then sneak into the final boss room.
This final pack before the final boss can be very hard, but it's just very important that you kill the prophet first to avoid fear, then quickly move away to avoid the blue ghost he spawns, which hits hard, you can move between the two corners to the left and right inside the entrance to the final boss room.
Now you can can kill the final boss, who is really easy if you just dodge the arcane explosion by going behind a pillar or using Anti-Magic Shell as a death knight. Now you can go out the back door, and if you're coming back in with a druid alt or friend to summon the boss, kill the three mobs that are in the middle of the first big room, then go to the entrance and relog.
Optional If you're logging on your druid alt, make sure to invite someone to group, make them leader, and have them invite your druid. Then just run in and everything should be cleared. Stealth forward past the first room, run up to Anzu's place and place the moonstone you need to summon on the pedestal, right after you place the orb, quickly relog, go back to your main and run in, you should be able to reach the room even before he is summoned, so you can pick him up right away, although it doesn't really matter as he won't despawn either.

The last 12 runs were solo'd as a Feral tank. My gear is about half Naxx or equivalent. I got my strategy polished to the point where I could clear Anzu's room and kill him without using a single potion or other consumable.

Anzu is a very easy solo for a feral druid, and there are more time consuming methods for soloing him as resto and balance as well.

My girlfriend was kind enough to pass for Anzu as I passed for her ZG tiger, and its pretty rare to see the Raven Lord on a DK where normally you see druids on it. So don't give up! Never lose hope! Comment by As of April 14th first day of 3. Savage Defense completely removes any aspect of difficulty that once existed during this fight. With infected wounds up, his attack speed is slowed to the point where you will almost certainly get a crit between his swings, and the shield will absorb practically all of his damage.
The only damage I received was from the bleed he likes to apply. Cross your fingers that you can get it soon before Blizzard realizes how pathetically easy this fight has gotten and removes the mount from the game or something like it did with the Amani Bear and Glory of the Raider proto drakes.
Maybe the massive server resets made it go to us because we were the first people to run it after the restarts? Or maybe they upped the drop rate and now everyone will have one :c. Comment by Actually it is not the act of summoning Anzu that turns it into a key, you must go back to the quest giver, turn in the quest, then talk to him and THEN you get the key.
Be sure to do that and you can summon him every time you go in once a day of course. This means that if you're a deathknight like me who happens to get a hold of one of these lovely birds and you forget to cast path of frost before entering the water, you must dismount manually now, cast path of frost, jump up on top of the water and then remount Minor inconvenience, but there you have it.

Ever since everyone started hitting 80 and getting good gear, the amount of people with the Anzu Reins seems to have jumped considerably the last couple of months.

Some people really do luck out with how quickly they got their Reins, but in all honesty it's worth every run! Comment by Kalx Dropped after my 3rd run with my druid friend, who passed on the mount for g. So after reading about the hot-the-statue-until-anzu-is-close-to-death-and-then-starfire method, I tried it out. It worked, and the mount didn't drop.
I tried that method twice and decided that it simply took too long. I also wasn't crazy about using what is obviously an exploit, so I decided to dedicate my 2nd spec to feral specifically to farm the mount. My feral set consists of mostly level gear, with a few 's thrown in here and there. The fight was as easy as many here have described. I approached the farming almost like a daily. Once in Shat, I'd fly to the instance, buff with MotW and thorns, then stealth to the end boss.
I killed Ikiss each time because I wanted to have a counter for the total number of kills Made things much easier, since I could kite all trash into Ikiss' room and not have to worry about fears from the prophets.
Once the room was cleared I'd summon and kill Anzu. Total attempts according to statistics : I realize that I am very fortunate. Nevertheless, I would not have started farming the mount if I was not ok with potentially hundreds of runs without a drop. You can't go into it expecting to be lucky. Expect the worst, accept it as a possibility. Think of it no more than a daily.
When the mount drops and in all probability, it will - By doing that, your thorns will hit for around , which is really nice for the bird adds. I've seen the math done and the reasoning that yes, all loot is random. As I stated I've covered a lot of data, and anyone who has gotten the Reins didn't get close to that many runs.
They will be mine soon! This grind is well worth the payoff. It does need to be treated like a daily and eventually, the Reins will be yours too. I prety much stopped playing my druid the moment he hit 80 and so he has no chance of soloing it and even if he did i would want it on my deathknight who is farming for the mount achievement. So the way i do it is me and a mage guildy of mine who has agreed to help on the condition i help him get the fiery warhorse after i got mine on my 1st solo run go into the instance with my dk and clear out the trash that needs killing, relog my druid summon anzu then relog my dk again.
Comment by Bearkin1 This is a rare drop off of Anzu, a special boss that can only be summoned if a druid that has completed or is on the second last step of the Swift Flight Form chain is in the group. As an 80 druid, Anzu is fairly easy to kill. He will go immune and summon adds which need to be killed every once in a while.
You should be able to bring him down without him going immune more than twice. The only difficult part about this is the trash that needs to be cleared. The Talon Lords will stun you and the Prophets will fear you.
Just make sure you you pre-hot, preferably in resto gear for the increased heals, and then burn down the Talon Lords and Prophets first and make sure you stay far away from other packs. Comment by Dropped for me June 16th '09 so it does still drop. Bring a trusted friend and establish that the mount is yours. I have heard a lot of stories of druids who magnanimously bring in others and when they open the roll, of course lose.
If you bring in pugs to help you, they will more than likely expect to roll on it! At 80, most of the instance can be skipped including the first boss! You want to kill the patting serpents though. At 80, the fears in Anzu's room should be pretty much-resistable BUT be aware that, should you be feared you can pull the whole room and wipe!
All of Anzu's room should be cleared just to be safe. My husband is up to about runs. Yeah, this pretty bird can take awhile to drop. Comment by Weird, I went in today like i have 29 other times, but when i got to the part to summon him the little alter that you have to click wasn't there. I went out, reset the instance, went back in Hope this is just a temporary bug on my part.
I always worry that they will get rid of the best looking mount in the game before i can get it. Comment by This is really actually sooo easy to solo as a moonkin, the only thing you have to kill is the cobalt serpent thats circling the alter. Use the eagle statue to take him down to about 3k health. Then just 1 shot him. Only downside is using the eagle statue takes about minutes.

My wife's druid hit 70 about 3 weeks ago and we started our grinding for the Raven Lord mount.
It dropped after about 3 weeks of grinding about 23 attempts. I won it on my pally. We took the next night off and then went back and it drops again and now have it on my warrior too.
Am i extremely lucky or have they up the drop rate? I am not giving up on Raptor. My warrior and pally are on separate accounts so i can use them both at the same time. I kill the 1st boss, Berserk pull the 1st two trash pulls, kill the 3rd and the stray reptile thingy, and Berserk pull the 4th and 5th pulls.

It dropped for me after my 3rd day of farming. Anzu himself will not pull them when you engage him but the flock of ravens he summons will. I have no clue how this would be done as a balance or resto druid but as a feral tank it was increadibly easy. I also did not HoT myself in between the times that Anzu summons his two raven flocks. However for those who are cautious ,less confident, or have poorer than heroic quality gear, the safest way to go about fighting Anzu is by using Barkskin when he uses Paralyzing Screech to reduce the damage you take when stunned as you can not dodge, HoTing yourself with Rejuvenation and Regrowth during the two times he begins to summon his Ravens, and to use Frenzied Regenartion when the said ravens are out to heal yourself and Berserk to kill them faster with Swipe and Maul.
My druid is only heroic-geared with some heroism badge items. So I didn't have any badass gear. He's just that easy at level I never fell under 15k HP for the duration of the entire fight. To clerify to any druids trying to start this questline, the quests are no longer started from their Alliance or Horde equivalents.
To start the quest line as either Alliance or Horde, you need to speak to Loganaar in Moonglade. Once finishing the quest line and defeating Anzu it IS safe to turn the quest in. You will recieve another key that you may permenantly keep to continue summoning Anzu.
Lastly, if you have intentions to farm this mount but are worried about the mount being removed from the game, do not worry. I personally spoke to a GM to inquire about this when I was around level 30 or 40 to clerify that I'd still be able to farm the mount once I reached The GM told me that there are no intentions to ever remove the mount as a drop from Anzu.

And btw I think they buffed Anzu's "Spell Bomb Curse" because when I farmed this mount with a druid ofc and with druid buff, his bomb hit'd me for Anzu cast it when he banish himself, he can also cast it random.

I was ready to give up. After a solid 54 tries 54 solo that is, about runs with a friend before i realized I could solo it! I was so close to just giving up after all these runs, but then when I had the most doubt, my luck turned right around. So next time you guys read "keep farming, it will drop" and think it will never drop for YOU, just think again.

Throughout the whole instance up until Anzu, I am balance and offhealing my friend who is an aggro magent. For pulls with 3 or more mobs, I root one mob and cyclone the other for easy kills. When we do get to Anzu, the strategy changes She tanks the boss herself with her imp out. When the adds come out, she just AoEs them until dead.
Rinse and repeat until Anzu is dead. Note: I dont use the statue spirit system thing because i dont have time to with my friend taking all the hits. Hasnt dropped for us yet, but she says I get the mount if it drops because she knows how much i really want this mount. We will continue to farm and farm until the mount drops, hopefully it will be soon.

Now that's a pain to find out, but it also means you will have a really rare mount if you eventually get it. You certainly don't see many people running around with it.

I've wanted it badly ever since I first saw it early on in TBC. It's simply amazing imo. Well, we ran it roughly times and when it dropped he won the roll.
He quit WoW shortly thereafter. I've been running it daily, rarely ever missing a day since. Currently I'm up to 83 solo runs. My old partner never wanted to kill Ikiss. We ran it, killed Anzu and hearthed out. Since I've been soloing it, I always kill Ikiss for profit and the shortcut. It's also a good way of tracking your of your runs.
This mount has been a super want for me for a long time, and also greatly helps out my quest towards Mountain o' Mounts Achievement. It's hard to keep your head up when all you see day in and day out is "Boots of Righteous Fortitude. And to anyone else out there that's feeling the same way I am after many runs, hang in there because I know how you feel.
