I now that ice is maybe 1" to 2" thick in that area. Some open water areas JUST froze over this weekend. The winds last week kept many areas from freezing over and opened back up a lot of areas that were froze over.
If we get the snow forecasted, or any snow for that matter it will only make things slower for accumulating more ice as the snow blankets the ice and slows down the freezing effect immensely. Wish I had better news for safer ice but I don't. There have been numerous reports of fisherman going through all over the Steuben County and Southern Michigan area.

Sorry to be such a sap. We are quiet renters with a Hobie Kat sail boat. We rented from Kurt Wilkinson in the past. Just open YELP and type pontoon in the search bar and you'll find our page. I drilled 4 holes on the North end of the lake about 40 yards from shore. It was between 3" and 4" thick. Keep in mind this will vary all over the lake, some thinner spots some thicker. Clear lake is still paper thin with many open spots. It looks safe with the snow on it but it is not!

You go thru a lot of Amish country and the restaurants along the way are yummy too. It makes a great day of riding.
